Today and forever this official
recognition of Sacagawea and Indian people in general, as essential
supports and companionships to the expedition, will accelerate
the much needed healing process taking place amongst many Native
people accross North America. Because the Tamarak® Walking
Stick is also a support and companion, it can be a true
symbol to acknowledge this bicentennial and this healing process.
In North America when new trails such as the American Discovery
Trail and the Trans Canada Trail, and old trails such as the Lewis
and Clark Trail are memorialized they are given renewed significance
for those who travel them today.
When pristine places are
set aside such as National Parks and Wilderness Areas, we are
attempting to keep the land as it was when only native
people dwelt there. They were its 'first stewards'. Many trails
we now call Historic Trails were originally theirs.
- Dennis Purschke, President of Tamarak.
